June 19, 2009 - Marcos Barbosa Costa, the driver of a runaway truck that killed two people in La Cañada on April 1st, was charged with murder Friday in Pasadena Superior Court. Prosecutors allege that Costa illegal drove his big rig on Angeles Forest Highway and down the Angeles Crest Highway despite signs prohibiting trucks of the size and weight he was driving.
June 8, 2009 - A federal judge has ruled that the Forest Service did not act in accordance with the law by failing to take into account the plight of several endangered species on the Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres, and San Bernardino National Forests when drafting revised forest plans. The parties to the case have until June 29th to file briefs outlining their proposed solutions.

May 30, 2009 - Officials discovered the body of a man who they say may have been set on fire near Templin Highway. A passerby had reported a small fire at approximately 12:30 AM. When firefighters arrived they discovered the victim.
March 11, 2009 - U.S. Representative Buck
McKeon (R-Santa Clarita) had proposed the creation of the
26,757-acre Pleasant View Ridge Wilderness Area as part of
the Omnibus
Public Land Management Act of 2009. The Act also
included designating 12,282 acres around Magic Mountain
(not the theme park) as the Magic Mountain Wilderness Area.
The Act failed passage on March 11.
February 15, 2009 - CalTrans will begin work this year on Highway 39 with the ultimate aim of reconnecting to the Angeles Crest Highway. The stretch from Crystal Lake to the Angeles Crest was closed after a series of slides destroyed the highway in 1977, and it has remained closed since.
